About this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy will tell you how Faber and Faber Ltd will collect, store and use any information which you provide on the ‘Visit Grubtown’ website. This includes your name and email address, and any other details you provide. Please read this policy carefully and show it to your parent/guardian before submitting any personal information.

The Information We Collect

We do not ask children to disclose any more information than is reasonably necessary for them to participate in the activities available on this website. We would like them to be able to take part in the full range of activities, and as such, we will at times ask for certain personal information, outlined below:

  • In order to receive news updates from the website, we will need to collect an email address and first name.
  • We will need to check whether you are over or under the age of 13, and may need the name and consent of a parent or guardian.
  • On submitting a news article to the Grubtown Daily Herald, we may also ask for the name and address of your school.

How We Use Your Personal Information

Faber and Faber Ltd will not disclose personal information gathered on this website to any third parties without the prior consent of you or your parent/guardian.

By providing an email address, you give us permission to send you email updates about the website and Philip Ardagh’s ‘Grubtown Tales’ series. You can unsubscribe from this service at any time by clicking on the ‘unsubscribe’ link found at the bottom of any email communications.

The Grubtown name generator will provide children with a safe, anonymous username to use on the website when submitting a news article to the Grubtown Daily Herald. If a submitted story is being featured online, we will display only the author’s Grubtown name. The email address provided will be used to notify you if your story has been selected for our special print edition of the newspaper. The details of your school will only be used to send copies of the newspaper to your class if your article is selected for this purpose.

We will take all reasonable steps to protect any information provided from theft, alteration or unauthorized inspection. Besides what is described in this Privacy Policy, we will not store any personal information obtained from children through this website in a retrievable form.

Children under the age of 13

At all times, children under the age of 13 will be required to obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before submitting any personal information to this website. This includes signing up for news updates and submitting news articles to the Grubtown Daily Herald.

Children over the age of 13

Children over the age of 13 will be allowed to give consent personally, and we will protect all submitted information in line with this Privacy Policy.

We encourage parents to get involved with children’s online usage and to be aware of the activities in which they are engaging, particularly with a view to safeguarding their privacy when using any interactive services online.

Cookies

Cookies are electronic tags that most websites place on your computer in the process of sending your computer a file, such as a web page. We use them as well. A cookie can tell us when a computer that has previously visited our site returns, and what pages it requests on each of its visits. Cookies help us keep track of how our visitors (or more accurately, their computers) use our site, including such things as the type of browser they use, the frequency of their visits and the pages that are most popular. They can help smooth your travel through our site by keeping track of information that has already been provided by your computer so that you do not need to re-enter it. In no event does the cookie we place on your computer tell us anything personal about you or about your visits to other websites (except those you enter through a link on our site), or your use of the internet in any other way. If you would still prefer not to receive any cookies, most browsers can be set to refuse cookies or to alert you when one is being sent. Please note, some portions of this site may not function properly if the cookies are disabled.
